The news had been blaring all day. The PR people at Ft. Drum insisted, "it's business as usual" around here. People get deployed all the time when they're enlisted. So it wasn't too shocking to witness what could only be described as a subdued and anticlimactic reaction by a few enlisted servicemen gathered at a local tavern as they watched President Obama's announcement that 30,000 more troops would be deployed to Afghanistan next year during his much anticipated address.

It feels like the clock just got turned back about 45 years... people must have been feeling like that when announcements were being made about sending more troops to Viet Nam...
